You would be surprised what 592KB worth of data in apps gets you these days. Take the official Flipboard app, for instance, that has finally landed on the Windows Store. It provides an elegantly optimized experience in what is an absolutely a lightweight and breezy package.
The app has long been in development — we got confirmation that it was coming in summer during Microsoft’s BUILD 2013 developer conference.
And just like all other versions available on competing platforms, the Windows 8.1 flavor allows users to read the latest news through a completely touch optimized interface, with options to share links, topics, blogs and websites, and yes, create their own custom magazines.
A selection from the official description:
“Flipboard is your personal magazine. It is the most popular way to catch up on the news you care about, read stories from around the world and browse the articles, videos and photos friends are sharing. To begin, pick a few topics and tap any of the tiles to begin flipping through your personal magazine.
Use the Discover button to customize your Flipboard with iconic sources like The New York Times, PEOPLE magazine, Fast Company and many more. You can also connect your social networks like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Share what you are reading and enjoy updates from friends all in one place.”
Flipboard for Windows 8.1 (and Windows RT 8.1) supports up to 12 social networks, from Facebook and Twitter to Instagram and Google+, while localized versions are also offered in 12 editions for US, UK, Australia, Canada, Japan, Italy and Germany.
And the free app also includes features exclusive to Microsoft’s modern platforms like Live Tiles and more, ensuring that users stay up to date on their favorite topics at all times.
