“The INSTEON Hub works in combination with your router and smartphone or tablet to control INSTEON devices in your home while you’re there, when you’re at work, or out of town. The INSTEON for Hub app works in concert with the Hub to automatically configure your Hub and router for remote access – so simple, anyone can do it.” Although there is room for a number of improvements, this initial release comes loaded with lots of features, including alerts and notifications when the system detects motions or water leaks. The messaging system works via text and email notifications, so you get alerts on tablets and smartphones. Some extra usability options, themes, pins, Live Tiles and Nest support would be welcome — basically the app lacks some Windows exclusive features. Still a welcome addition to the Windows ecosystem. Of course, everything is powered by the cloud, allowing access from unlimited devices running either Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1. Yes, this free app does support ARM based devices. • Perfect timing for this app. Seems like a great one, and home automation is where the future is heading for companies like Microsoft and Apple. This is a nice start.
