Time for some juicy gossip! As far as operating systems go, Windows 8.1 has had a rightfully colorful story to tell. From early development to rumored details and leaked ISOs.
But perhaps the most quaint tale was left for the RTM release of the operating system.
Microsoft recently made available for download the final RTM build of Windows 8.1 on its MSDN and TechNet subscription services, in order to ensure that developers who want to get their applications ready for launch day can do so.
This came after leaked ISOs of the RTM version hit the web a few days earlier.
The technology titan initially made it very clear that because it was still working on refining the operating system, all users would get the ISOs at the same time in October — developers, system administrators, the whole IT community, everyone.
But then it seems that someone (with influence) within Redmond had a change of heart and made the decision of rolling out the RTM bits lot sooner than what was originally planned.
Neowin has learnt that the decision to make the RTM version of Windows 8.1 available early to subscribers came after a number of heated disputes inside the company.
A few top executives, it appears, were all for delaying the launch until October. Developers, on the other hand, pushed for an earlier release — just as has been the case in the past.
Guess who won in the end?
As noted above, one of the main reasons why Microsoft was said to want to delay the final Windows 8.1 RTM version was the company’s desire to continue working on the operating system, even after handing it out to OEMs and hardware vendors.
The company promises a bug-free experience to all users at launch, and is working to ensure that the operating system has the required level of polish when it hits Windows Store on October 18.
Differences of opinion happen when ever there are more then two people present. Hotly contested is good, there is passion to do the right thing. This is just everyday baseness.
It may be just me but I think to qualify as “juicy gossip” you at least need the names of the people involved and an unusual point of contention..
