Windows 10 and what it will bring to the platform, there is some rather interesting seismic activity going on underneath — the adoption of Microsoft’s modern operating platform has picked up heavily in these past couple of months.
So much so that Windows 8.1 is about to overtake Windows XP, without any help from the base Windows 8 whatsoever.
This has been revealed via the latest figures from StatCounter, which show that Microsoft’s latest might well overtake the popular Windows XP before this month is out.
Windows XP still figures in second place here, with a share of 11.87%. And Windows 8.1 is very much within striking distance at 11.69%. Windows 7 retains the leading position with a commanding 56.03% of the market, leaving Mac OS X in fourth place with 8.97% overall.
Combined, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 is good enough for 17.33% of the desktop market.
The takeaway from all this?
While adoption was particularly low for the rest of the year, things have picked up on the modern Windows front as we approach the end of 2014.

Not exactly rocket science to figure out why 8 is overtaking xp. Those old machines are probably dying left and right so folks aren’t about to wait around for 10 to come out.
