report, the fate of Windows 8.1 Update 3 depends on it. Fact is, Windows 9 is Microsoft’s main priority right now. Windows 8.1 Update 2 is still on track to go live at its scheduled date, but depending on how fast work on the next full version of the high profile operating system advances, the company might also release a third update for the current OS. If, for instance, work is delayed, and Windows 9 skips past its early 2015 release window, then Update 3 is pretty much a certainty in the first few months of next year. And it stands to reason that Windows 8.1 Update 3 will not bring any major new features. Instead, this version could be used to pave the road for Windows 9 and prepare users (and computers) for the major new release later that year. File this as a rumor for now, but one that makes a lot of sense.]]>
I think they should do an Update 3 no matter what. Even Windows 9 is on time, just release update 3 after 9.
Makes sense to me. My guess is that 9 ends up getting pushed back and update 3 is thrown together at the last minute to hold all the users over until the release. Not ideal, but that’s what I imagine.
