Windows 8 Final Review Part 2 – The Microsoft Vision

24 hours in a Microsoft world) but it does bear repeating. I believe that Windows 8 is part of a very important process. It’s part of the beginning of the unification of Microsoft’s technology platforms. At some point in the near future, Microsoft are hoping that their unified platform will be a part of your life in a big way. They would like to see Microsoft technology in your:

  • Car
  • House
  • Browser
  • Search Engine
  • Office Applications
  • Video conferencing
  • PC
  • Xbox
  • Server
  • Tablet
  • Laptop
  • Phone
…and any other new device you may be using in the future. In order to make that hapen, they have started to move their various Operating Systems and the underlying code basically to Windows 8 or something very similar. Each device will have a Metro like user interface on the outside and very similar data sharing/interfacing technology on the inside. Basically as more and more of your devices can sync and share data intelligently, the more value they can add to your life – that’s the working theory. Intuitively I believe most of us want some form of that synergy in our lives, we just haven’t seen any vendor execute. It’s kind of like how we all kind of knew we wanted to be empowered in the way we bought music but no one could really articulate what that looked like until iTunes. It’s a grand and ambitious vision and I think that Microsoft should be applauded and commended for it. Apple and Google are both working hard in their own ways to achieve the same end result but it’s arguable that because Microsoft have the largest technology footprint and customer base, they have certain advantages. Once again, I believe that Windows 8 is the beginning of that transformation for Microsoft. OK, let’s get more specific.. Lets talk about what Microsoft got right with Windows 8.
