Windows 8 Has Now Grabbed 5.42% Of The OS Market

Start of another month, start of an influx of statistics and market share figures. Windows 8 statistics have been of immense interest ever since the release of Microsoft’s newest platform.

The latest is that the OS has managed to grab a 5.42 percent of the market by the end of July.

However, data from research firm Net Applications reveals that Windows 8 grew only 0.32 percentage points during the month — it enjoyed a notable 0.83 percentage points increase back in June. This makes this its smallest gain since the operating system launched late last year.

A report on TNW claims that the impressive surge in June was mainly because of the nearing release of the Windows 8.1 Preview. The technology community wanted to test drive the public preview version of the upcoming OS, and this helped the platform attain its 5.10 percent market share.

In July, however, this growth slowed down considerably as people wait for the operating system to hit RTM status, and after that, general availability.

Another notable factor was the 0.13 percentage points increased in Windows 7 usage. The world’s most popular operating system now accounts for a mammoth 44.50 percent of the market.

And this is a figure that could potentially grow up to the 50 percent mark, as the Windows XP user base decides to upgrade to a newer version of the operating system before its retirement date next year.
