If there is one thing Microsoft has sworn the oath of secrecy for is Windows Blue. Not much was known about the next major refresh of the Windows operating system apart from it summer release. Until now.

But a new job listing for a software development engineer revealed some (juicy) new details about the upcoming software. The eagle eyed folks over at ZDNet were one of the first to spot it.

Apparently, Windows Blue will be based on the existing user interface (Metro or Modern, whatever have you), but many other aspects of the operating system are set to get a bunch of major new improvements. Sounds interesting and intriguing:

“We’re looking for an excellent, experienced SDET to join the Core Experience team in Windows Sustained Engineering (WinSE). The Core Experience features are the centerpiece of the new Windows UI, representing most of what customers touch and see in the OS. Windows Blue promises to build and improve upon these aspects of the OS, enhancing ease of use and the overall user experience on devices and PCs worldwide.”

But as soon as the news got out in the media, the company quickly moved in and removed all the job ads, just like that. The job openings remain unavailable as of this writing.

Well played, Microsoft, very well played.

Latest rumors indicate that Redmond is planning to push this Blue update beyond the Windows platform, meaning other products and services from Microsoft — Windows Phone, SkyDrive, Internet Explorer — could also be in line get the update.
