Microsoft seems to be gearing up to provide Windows Phone 8 users several new features in the near future, and one of them is reportedly FM radio functionality.
A new report over at The Verge seems to suggest that the previously rumored FM radio support is something that Redmond has prepared as part of its Windows Phone 8 GDR2 (General Distribution Release, for the uninitiated) update.
Windows Phone 7 devices obviously came with support for FM radio, but this feature was not included in Windows Phone 8 from the get go, though Microsoft had hinted it might arrive on in a future date.
Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 are expected to receive this functionality — along with other handsets that pack the need hardware inside.
Along with the ability to listen to radio channels, the new update is also said to deliver a new screen activation gesture to Nokia Lumia devices that would enable users to double-tap the screen to bring their devices up from standby.

A flip to silence option (long rumored, by the way) is also in the work along with Lumia color profile settings for the screen.
So a whole bunch of really useful enhancements as you can see that would go a long way in bringing some much needed features to Windows Phone 8 devices. The platform is growing in various markets around the globe, and enhancements like these will only strengthen it.
