Windows Phone 8 GDR3 Said To Pack A Notifications Center

Microsoft is expected to unleash a new flavor of its mobile operating platform, Windows Phone 8. It is on track to land as in the form of GDR3 (General Distribution Release 3), and reports on what it might pack are starting to surface.

One rumored new addition is the notifications center — finally.

Some of you may recall that this feature was said to arrive only with Windows Phone 8.1, a major refresh of the mobile platform. But it seems that Microsoft has had a change of heart, and the technology titan has decided to release it sooner than that.

Windows Phone 8.1 is still a league or two away, after all.

This new information comes from NokiaPowerUser and the report also claims that their tipster revealed that Nokia is also testing a certain feature that is being called “Appetite.”

What is not totally clear is whether the aforementioned notifications center will be the full featured solution from Microsoft, or something that Nokia is working on, on its own. No specific details are available on this for the time being, but Windows Phone users will take either option.

Microsoft’s mobile community has in the recent past expressed its dissatisfaction at the seemingly slow pace at which updates are rolled out, and new features added to the company’s mobile OS.

And considering that Windows Phone 8.1 already seems destined for a 2014 release, a notifications center in Windows Phone 8 GDR3, along with its support for quad-core processor and 1080p displays will help ease some of this discontent — at least for the Lumia user base.
