Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 have been out for a little while now, and although Windows 8 might be considered off to a slow start by some, both products are doing everything they can to introduce new customers and prove that they are in it to win it.
This includes aggressive advertising, the creation of cutting-edge hardware products and pumping out new apps like crazy. In the Windows 8 world, we have over 35,000 apps already out to the store in the short time that the Windows Store has been officially on the market.
For the Windows Phone Store? According to Microsoft, they added 75,000 new apps to the Windows Phone Store in 2012. There are a total of 150,000 available apps through the Store. Keep in mind that many of these were actually made for Windows Phone 7 devices originally, though.
From Microsoft’s blog, here is what they had to say about the rise in apps:
Confidence is built by testing and certifying every app and game to help protect customers from malware and viruses. Over the last year we’ve certified and published over 75,000 new apps and games (more than doubling the catalog size) and over 300,000 app updates. In addition, this year we added the capability for customers to tell us if they have a concern about an app.
Overall, this is great news. Sure, Windows Phone 8 doesn’t have the same massive app libraries as its key rivals (Android and iOS), but this is a good start. With RIM preparing around 75,000 apps for the launch of its new BB10 OS later this month, it is great to see that Microsoft is already ahead of them.
