confirmed this important, important milestone, which at the same time fortifies the notion that Windows Phone continues to gain steady momentum. If this pace keeps up, or improves, the platform could be looking at half a million apps before the year is out. This is what the company had to say:
“In the past year alone the Windows and Windows Phone app catalog has grown 94%, while the number of active developers has grown by 50%.”In fact, the software titan also announced this on its ‘By the Numbers’ webpage here. With this accelerated growth, things are looking good for the mobile operating platform, which still has a long way to go to catch up with the top two leaders. It was only towards the end of June when we received confirmation that the Windows Phone Store hit the 255,000 apps milestone, and keeping in mind that it is summer in most parts of the globe, this is a solid bit of acceleration. Now, while numbers are important, the key factor is the quality and usability. And this is where Windows Phone still has to catch up with competitors. The winds of change are here, but they will only be felt by the end consumers, if Windows Phone versions of popular apps get the same set of features and updates, as they get on Android, and in particular, iOS. Soon, then. Very soon.]]>
Today: “Now, while numbers are important, the key factor is the quality and usability”
Soon: “Now, while numbers and quality are important, the key factor is usability”
Then: “While numbers, quality and usability are important, the key factor is the OEM”
This good. The only thing I really use that is missing now for me is a Capital One and a Skout apps. I wouldn’t mind the KIK and POF apps being updated though
Fantastic! I think they need to shoot for 100% growth the next few years in terms of apps. If they can do that, they can really close the gap on apple and android soon.
I’m with you Emily. A couple more years of growth and Windows app store can cover some ground. Next big milestone is 500,000.
