The Windows RT 8.1 launch party encountered a few unexpected hiccups, for some users at least, leading to Microsoft pulling the update from the Windows Store.
But not before countless users had already installed the first refresh of Windows on ARM.
According to the reports, some issues were spotted in the install package over the weekend. Statistically speaking, they were said to have affected only 1 in 1,000 Surface RT users — in other words as rare as it gets. Still the problem was there and Microsoft had to look into it.
And now Microsoft Support has just announced on its Twitter account that Windows RT 8.1 is back in store for everyone:
“Windows RT 8.1 update available again for free in the Windows Store. Go update your Windows RT and Surface RT devices now!”
That’s your cue, people — light up your download engines and get the update from the Store.
Microsoft is yet to provide detailed specifics on what went wrong in the first place, but an official explanation is probably incoming. The software titan did announce that the faulty update had broken down only a few Windows RT devices.
In a statement to ZDNet, Redmond announced that only a handful of devices were affected:
“Based on our investigations of a situation customers have encountered updating to Windows RT 8.1, we can confirm that as of now this is a Windows update issue only affecting Surface RT customers.
While only less than 1 out of every 1,000 (or less than 0.1 percent) Surface RT customers who have installed Windows RT 8.1 have been impacted, improving their experience and ensuring their systems are fully operable as quickly as possible is our number one priority.”
