If you were wondering when the next name change is coming from Microsoft, it’s here. The company has announced the Windows Security will make its debut with the upcoming Windows 10 Redstone 5.
The new update that’s now in development.
Where’s the name change, you ask?
Well, this new security hub is none other than the Windows Defender Security Center, which is a very useful feature of the operating system. This is how it looks in the current one, Windows 10 April 2018 Update, that is:
Now, to be fair, this is a rebranding that makes sense, considering the security approach Microsoft has taken for its operating platform.
But it still is a rebranding.
This is what Microsoft announced:
“Windows Defender Security Center is now called Windows Security. You can still get to the app in all the usual ways – simply ask Cortana to open Windows Security or interact with the taskbar icon. Windows Security lets you manage all your security needs, including Windows Defender Antivirus and Windows Defender Firewall.
We’re also bringing some changes to how we present threats and actions that need your attention, and we’re continuing to refine that over the coming months.”
So, along with the rename, there are other refinements that will soon be part of the package.
Just like in the Windows 10 April 2018 Update, Windows Security groups all security features in the operating system in one place — like Windows Defender antivirus scanning, firewall options, ransomware protection and parental controls.
The new Windows Security is now available in the Windows 10 Redstone 5 preview build 17661 exclusively, which means it can be accessed via the Skip Ahead channel and the Fast ring.
And it will see daylight this October, with the release of the anticipated Redstone 5 update.
But it still is a rebranding.
