Windows 11 has generated hot interest and fiery debate ahead of its official launch later this year. And on one of the few things that are irritating users is — wait for it — the Start Menu.
A radical change, unexpected in some ways and understandable in others, has proved controversial and divisive for numerous reasons. These include the fact that it is centered by default, though this can be changed in a couple of clicks.
Another thing that has upset people is the inclusion of the Recommended panel in the lower half of the Start Menu.
At the moment, it highlights the recently used files and recently installed apps. But people fear that Microsoft will use this space to spam them with other recommendations, as has happened in the past.
Thankfully, as noted, the company is ready to give us the option to hide this section completely.
A little debugging unearthed that Windows 11 build 22000.120 packs in the option to hide the Recommended section completely, with a few different choices available to get rid of this space from the Start Menu.
Unfortunately, this is still a work in progress.
And there is no way to customize other elements right now, elements like showing the “All apps” section by default. Or removing the “Pinned” text. Or the “Recommended” heading for that matter. Or even making use of the space that is now available.
But hopefully, that is coming next.
