Took a while coming, but Alcatel has finally managed to launch its delayed Windows 10 Mobile powered flagship for buyers in the UK, the preorders of which had gone line a fair while back.

Initial estimate was launch on July 26.

But we all know how that can go sometimes.

Nevertheless, Microsoft, after quietly delaying the launch, has made available the Alcatel IDOL 4 Pro for buyers in the United Kingdom, where they will have to part with £419.99 to get their hands on what is still a fairly high-end smartphone.

The name may have changed slightly from the IDOL 4S with Windows 10 that it was known in the United States, but the specifications are, nevertheless, identical.

  • Display: 5.5-inch AMOLED display, with Asahi Dragontrail Glass
  • Resolution: Full HD 1920 x 1080 pixels
  • Processor: Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 64GB storage, with microSD card support up to 512GB
  • Cameras: 21MP rear camera with HDR support, 4K video recording at 30fps, along with an 8MP front camera that shoots 1080p video at 30fps
  • Connectivity: 4G LTE, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, USB Type-C connector with Quick Charge, as well as a fingerprint sensor
  • Battery: 3000mAh battery
  • OS: Windows 10 Mobile Continuum support

Sadly, this 6.9mm thin handset does not come with the VR headset for buyers in the UK, and elsewhere in Europe, that was offered to buyers in the United States.

T-Mobile served as the carrier of choice in the US, launching it for $469.99. But deep price cuts quickly slashed its price to $288, before the network dropped the device altogether from its range some six months later.

Remains to be seen what kind of an impact this device has on the UK market. But at least, fans of the Windows 10 Mobile platform have another choice available, in case they want to make the jump.

You can take a look at the handset here on the Microsoft Store, if you’re interested.
