Huawei Might Unveil A Premium Windows Phone 8 Device At MWC 2013

Chinese giant Huawei had already promised a slew of devices for the year at the recently concluded Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas a few weeks back.

But apparently that was not all — the company has a few more surprises in store for the world.

The mobile phone maker has been sending out invitations for a press event set for February 24 in Barcelona, round about the time of the 2013 Mobile World Conference where word is that the company will be unveiling a smartphone or two.

This event is set to take place right before the MWC 2013 kicks off, and the invitation Huawei sent to GSM Arena provided a bit of a glimpse at the expected smartphone’s front frame design.

Industry insiders are speculating that the company plans to bring a high-end Windows 8 smartphone for display at the conference.

The smartphone is speculated to be part of the company’s Ascend W series, and could come with a 4.5-inch screen sporting a 1280×720 display powered by a dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM.

On the camera front, the rumored premium smartphone is said to feature an 8 megapixel snapper on the back with support for full HD video recording, plus a front camera for video calling.

The Chinese company has recently been pushing new boundaries with its smartphones — it already unveiled a 6.1-inch Android phablets (Ascend Mate), along with its flagship Android smartphone (Ascend D2) which comes with a 5-inch 1080p screen and a quad-core processor.

The company already turned a few heads with the Ascend W1, Huawei’s first Windows Phone 8 smartphone that will be competing in the midrange segment at the $250 price point.

A premium Windows Phone 8 smartphone, if it comes, arrives at the perfect time with Microsoft’s mobile platform gaining some solid traction.

Consumer and vendor interest in the platform is quite high, with companies like Nokia, HTC and more enjoying solid success with several new models running Windows Phone 8.
