Earlier today we talked about how the Nokia Lumia 920 has already won numerous rewards for innovation, design and more. While Nokia is still struggling fiscally, this has a been a solid win for the company.
The Nokia Lumia 920 is constantly listed as sold out or in low stock throughout the globe, that includes China where it managed to sell out in just 20 minutes. So what’s next? According to reports first coming from the Verge, a new flagship phone is in the works that will act as the successor the Lumia 920.
The next-gen variant is known by the codename “Catwalk” and is said to leave behind Nokia’s polycarbonate shell in favor of an aluminum body that will give it a sleek look while also helping reduce weight.
This isn’t that surprising, considering the Nokia Lumia 920 is often criticized for its weight– it is currently the heaviest smartphone on the market. In your hands, it really isn’t that bad, but it is still a valid complaint for many consumers.
If these rumors are to be believed, Catwalk is one of three new Lumia WP8 devices that will launch this year.
You have to wonder though, is this going to backfire on the company? I mean, many users are just now buying the Lumia 920 and 820. Will it botherusers to know that these phones are already getting sequels? Honestly, it depends on how Nokia handles things.
Companies like Samsung get new devices all the time, but there ‘flagship’ models get less frequent updates. If Catwalk is a new flagship but doesn’t intend to necessarily ‘replace’ the 920, that will be a good move.
Additionally, the Lumia 920 is only on AT&T right now, so having a flagship that is available for all carriers might be a smart move.
