Yesterday Microsoft delivered a new update to its SkyDrive app for Windows RT and Windows 8 devices, alongside the update to its Sports app as well.

So what’s changed in the new version of SkyDrive? The biggest difference is that the app now supports live tile functionality. Specifically, you will now be able to see the last file you uploaded into your account.

According to the Microsoft Windows blog:

Starting today, the SkyDrive app from the Windows Store will start showing you notifications on the live tile when you add new files to your SkyDrive. Now the tile for the SkyDrive app will be useful for more than just launching the app, by providing at-a-glance info on what’s going on in your SkyDrive. Whenever you add new files to SkyDrive, the app tile shows you relevant details. If you add a document, you’ll see the document name, along with when it was added, and what folder it’s in. If you add photos, the tile gives you a nice view of those photos.

The app is now available for your downloading pleasure and while not dramatically different, it is still nice to see them supporting key Start UI features like Live tiles. Do you use SkyDrive, does the idea of having live tile support matter to you?

  • The update for live tile isn’t available yet and live tiles will make the private data more visible to people which isn’t what everyone wants.
