Microsoft wins 480 million dollar contract from the US Army

Microsoft Hololens

Interesting.

According to Bloomberg, Microsoft just got awarded a contract from the United States Army that is worth $480 million.

Microsoft will be supplying the US Army with “augmented reality systems” that will be used for training and combat missions.

The contract could result in the purchase of over 100,000 AR headsets from the firm.

This is an interesting use of the Hololens because in addition to it’s basic features, the Army will be incorporating night vision and thermal sensing in the headset.

A Microsoft spokesperson stated:

“Augmented reality technology will provide troops with more and better information to make decisions. This new work extends our longstanding, trusted relationship with the Department of Defense to this new area.”

Redmond seems to be on a roll since they are now routinely being mentioned as the most valuable company in the world.

Impressive.
