Another balmy Wednesday, another fresh Windows 10 preview. And this one is rather special, in that there are no new features in this version, and it focuses on bug fixes.

Microsoft has made Windows 10 build 20251 available for download, and Insiders can take it for a test drive, and see how it performs.

As mentioned above, this new build is focused entirely on fixing bugs, improving performance under the hood for the operating system, and getting it in tiptop shape — not surprising considering what happened last week.

The build that was released last week, build 20246.1 had Microsoft move the Dev channel from the rs_prerelease branch to the fe_release branch. This means that we should not expect any new features to arrive in the release branch.

Technically, this is the exact opposite of what the Dev channel is supposed to stand for.

When Redmond overhauled the Windows Insider Program in June, one of the primary promises was the Dev channel would be in a perpetual state of rs_prerelease. It was, after all, its name was changed from Fast ring to be more descriptive.

It appears that the software titan is waiting till the second half of this month to go back to the prerelease branch, and that is when we will start seeing new features again.

Oh well.

There’s plenty of fixes and an almost equal number of known issues in this build, though. You can check out the details at the link above, and grab this build from Windows Update if you are in the mood.
