Windows 8.1 App Watch: The Lone Ranger

The recently released film The Lone Ranger came with hefty expectations (and an even heftier budget), but it did not exactly manage to set the box office on fire this summer.

This free game inspired by the movie, on the other hand, has a few good things going for it.

Disney’s The Lone Ranger is a casual, story-driven game that has you completing quests and getting rewarded for it. Most of the game goes like this — click on the main character to get a new quest, successfully complete it, and then rinse and repeat. If necessary, that is.

The official description:

“Saddle up and take the reigns as one of the greatest Texas Rangers in the Wild West. Embark on a thrilling adventure as you protect the town of Colby, face-off in epic showdowns, and bring infamous outlaws to justice. Fight against greed and corruption in this 3d, role-playing adventure!”

A game like this lives and dies by its quests, and the good news is that the quests here are quite diverse. You get to indulge in shootouts with the bad guys, duel it out with bandits, find items, or even perform some basic, simple tasks. Your character levels up throughout the game, as it gains experience.

Like pretty much all Disney games, this one supports all Windows 8 (or higher) enabled devices, including those that are powered by ARM based processors.
