Only in Russia, eh? Nokia has just announced price cuts of up to 15 percent for its Lumia smartphones in Russia. A move that would further add to the popularity these handsets enjoy in the country.
Also a move that should not surprise anyone — the Finnish mobile phone maker is gearing up to launch new devices in the coming months. And a marketing masterstroke like this is only meant to make room for new Nokia Lumia smartphones set to arrive as early as this summer.
According to WMPowerUser, the only devices not in on the discounted fun are the Lumia 520 and Lumia 720, both of which are (as of this writing) not available in the market.
But apart from these two models, most Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone 8 handset have been discount by as much as 15 percent, and are now available for grabs at these prices:
- Nokia Lumia 920 – 21,990 rubles ($696)
- Nokia Lumia 820 – 16,990 rubles ($540)
- Nokia Lumia 620 – 10,490 rubles ($330)
- Nokia Lumia 710 – 7,490 rubles ($235)
- Nokia Lumia 510 – 7,490 rubles ($235)
None too shabby, if you ask me! Besides, this may not be the last price cut these devices get. Nokia would ideally want to move its entire inventory before it launches this year’s models — and this special discount will see to it that it does.
The Windows Phone platform, overall, has gained some noticeable market share in most countries, including Russia and India. A fair bit of it has got to do with aggressive pricing.
Plus, the reason that Nokia now boasts a much bigger selection of devices at all important price ranges means that customers get a wider variety of choices. The upcoming Nokia devices set for release this year will only help the Finnish telecommunication giant in its quest to grab more of the market.
