What’s New In the Windows 10 May 2020 Update?

Windows 10 May 2020 Update

Windows 10 May 2020 Update is nearly here. Previously known under the codename 20H1 during development, this newest release now goes by as Windows 10 version 2004.

Microsoft has packed in a slew of new features in this latest feature update for its OS — certainly more than the previous release, the November 2019 Update. But unless you look really deep, this version still feels like a collection of useful improvements, rather than an update packed with new additions.

This article aims to help you navigate the May 2020 Update waters, discovers its new additions, and make a decision on just how quickly should you deploy it.

Let’s dive in!

Windows 10 Major Features

Major new features in May 2020 Update

We’ll start with the big new features that Microsoft has packed in with this release. These are options that help with productivity, security and speed of the operating system. This certainly isn’t a large update, but most of the improvements listed below will be welcomed by many.

Cortana

The digital assistant is one of the biggest changes in this new OS. Microsoft has changed Cortana on Windows 10 inside out. There’s a shiny new Cortana experience that is more focused on typing rather than voice. A cleaner UI makes working with her a lot easier.

That said, this change is not without its issues.

Cortana

For starters, the new Cortana cannot access your notebook, use skills, or control your home devices. This is unfortunate, but perhaps for the better, as she definitely was getting left behind in the race for smart assistants.

More importantly, Cortana will now have its own app, rather than being baked into Windows 10. This means we can expect to see more regular updates for it from the Microsoft Store in the future, rather than these being tied to the major OS updates that is currently the case.
